Dr. Lidia Lazarova Vitanova is a Senior Researcher at the GATE Institute, Sofia University, Bulgaria, and an accredited Fitwel Ambassador(健康建筑认证体系专家). She has developed an innovative research portfolio at the intersection of climate, technology, and urban sustainability. Her research focuses on urban climate dynamics, digital twins for cities, AI and Big Data applications in sustainable development, and human-centered smart city design. Her work integrates computational modeling and data-driven approaches to explore urban resilience, low-carbon transitions, and energy efficiency. Through her contributions, she aims to enhance environmental sustainability and human well-being in built environments.
Dr. Vitanova’s scholarly achievements are reflected in a strong publication record across high-impact journals such as Sustainable Cities and Society, Urban Climate, Environmental Research Communications, and Meteorological Applications. Her works have explored topics such as the evolution of urban heat islands, energy mapping of Sofia, AI-driven energy data analysis, and mobility and transport energy systems. Notable publications include studies on urban heat dynamics in Sofia, Sendai, and Beijing, and the development of an Energy Atlas and Urban Digital Twin for Sofia.
Her scientific excellence has been recognized through several awards, including the Outstanding Reviewer Award (IOP Publishing, 2023) and finalist recognition at the 21st Environment and Equipment Design Awards (Tokyo, 2022). She also holds professional certifications in quality auditing (EN ISO 9001:2008) and system programming.
Fluent in English and Japanese, with additional proficiency in Spanish, Italian, and Russian, Dr. Vitanova embodies a global and collaborative approach to urban sustainability research. Through her interdisciplinary expertise, she continues to contribute to advancing climate-resilient urban environments, combining technological innovation, data analytics, and ecological understanding to shape the future of smart and sustainable cities.

The presentation introduces Sofia’s Urban Digital Twin as a dynamic platform integrating 3D city models and advanced simulations to support sustainable urban planning.
